Continuous Mains Water Treatment Using Chlorine Dioxide

National conditions of use of chlorine dioxide allow up to 0.5ppm of chlorine dioxide to be consumed. This means that it is possible to dose into drinking water systems, as well as down water services such as showers and other systems that are likely to generate aerosols. The use of chlorine dioxide as a control measure is described in ACOP:L8: Legionnaires Disease – The control of legionella bacteria in water systems; where it is suggested as a biocide treatment for the control of Legionella bacteria.

The 0.5mg/l limit includes the total concentration of chlorine dioxide, chlorite and chlorate. As chlorine dioxide is far more effective as a biocide than chlorite or chlorate, generation methods that generate purer chlorine dioxide solutions can be significantly more effective control measures than less pure methods. It is here that Clearwater catalytic technology comes into its own.
