17th February 2010- Newmarket Racecourse - Practical and legal realities for Engineers and Facilities Managers in controlling water-borne pathogens, including Legionella in buildings.

Covering the risk and effects of disease acquired through water systems in buildings, together with an understanding of the direction of the law, new technology and practical solutions. This seminar should be of interest to both persons who have a legal responsibility and those who manage the practical aspects on a day to day basis.

Speaker
Dr Tom Makin
is Directorate Manager in the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. Dr Makin has been involved in Diagnostic Microbiology for 30 years and has researched extensively into environmental aspects of Legionnaire’s disease, assessing the effectiveness of various measures in the control of Legionella in a variety of water systems. Many papers on this topic have been published by him he also lectures widely in the UK and abroad. Dr Makin has also advised The Health and Safety Executive on aspects of Legionella and was a member of the working party that produced the Guidance accompanying the HSC Approved Code of Practice (L8) released in February 2001.

Morning Presentation 10.00 a.m. – 13.00
Includes: Scientific insights to the causes and control of Legionellosis with case studies.

Afternoon Presentation 14.00. – 15.30
Includes: Techniques and technologies for the treatment of water and control of Legionella.

The cost for the seminar £90 plus VAT per delegate, includes hot lunch and delegate pack. Free car park is provided at this venue.
